Mr. Shapses began his insurance career in 2000. His first position at Further Lane Asset Management focused on raising high-net-worth capital for institutionally platform-approved hedge funds. Concurrently, he developed Further Lane’s insurance and estate planning business primarily serving family office clients. In 2005, Mr. Shapses began to work more deeply in the asset backed world, aggregating life settlements for private equity and hedge fund investors utilizing his own insurance licensed company - A. Shapses and Company. Thereafter Mr. Shapses merged A. Shapses and Company to co-found Dearborn Capital Partners. At Dearborn, Mr. Shapses was instrumental in the aggregation of more than $3 billion of notional value, actively managing, along with Martin Fleisher, a life settlement fund in excess of $1.5bn of notional face.
Mr. Shapses was hired as a consultant to Institutional Life Services (Owned by Madison Dearborn Capital) in March of 2013 to focus on portfolio and block trading with private equity, hedge fund, and institutional relationships. Mr. Shapses joined Heritage Strategies as a Partner in 2014 to focus on his planning work with HNW and Super HNW’s. He uses his private equity approach to insurance active management specifically in the development and ongoing management of their life insurance portfolios as well as in developing their estate plans. Mr. Shapses obtained a BA in Finance and Organization Management from the Gouizeta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta GA. He also has a CFP from New York University. He maintains Life and Health Insurance, Property and Casualty Insurance, Life Settlement Broker licenses and a Series 7 license. Mr. Shapses currently serves as an Associate Board Member of The Museum of Jewish Heritage, serves on the Advisory Board for IAVA and also serves on the Board for Books for Kids.
